Amber Fort is located at a distance of 11km from Jaipur city. It was the sear of power of the Kachhawaha clan of Amber. It used to be their capital, until it was moved to Jaipur. The construction of the fort began in the year 1592 by Raja Man Singh-I but he could not complete the construction after that his descendant Jai Singh-I completed its construction.
Architecture
The fort is built with white marble and red sandstone. It looks even more attractive because of the Maota Lake in the foreground. The fort in itself is a remarkable sight. As one looks on the fort with its clear reflection on the lake in the front, one cannot help but wonder if it is a dream or a beautiful illusion.
The exterior of the Fort is not in the least like its interior. The outside is very imposing and rugged looking whereas the inside is a comforting and warm interior. This interior is influenced by both Hindu and Muslim style of ornamentation. On the walls, paintings depict various hunting scenes. There id also a lot artistic work on the walls. These are covered with intricate carvings; mosaic and minute mirror-work that make the halls look very majestic and imperial.
