About Khajuraho Temple
Temple
town of Khajuraho is much different from any other temple city of India. It is not about religion, worshipping and deities. The temples of Khajuraho are instead famous for the eroticism etched on its walls in the form of sculptures. The temple of Khajuraho is a fine example of Indian architectural styles that have gained popularity due to their depiction of the traditional way of life during primeval and medieval times. They were re-discovered only during the 20th century. Long forgot by the populace in the surrounding areas, the jungles had taken a toll on some of the monuments.

The city was once the religious capital of the Chandela Kings, a Hindu dynasty that ruled this part of India from the 10th to the 12th centuries. The Khajuraho temples were built over a span of a hundred years. A wall with eight gates, each flanked by two golden palm trees enclosed the whole area. The 85 temples were built in North Indian ‘Nagara’ style of architecture, through only 20 of them have survived the rough weather conditions over long years of time. The two richer distinctive group of temples scattered over an area of about 21 sq. km.
